Establishment

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) was established in Cairo by Law 94 of 2003, and some of its provisions were amended by Law 197 of 2017. The NCHR is composed of twenty-seven members (25 members, in addition to the President and Vice-President), who are distinguished for their contributions to the protection of human rights. Since its establishment, the NCHR has been working independently to develop and implement a national human rights strategy in Egypt, and to hold conferences and meetings with its local and international partners.
